Shopping British Brands from the UAE: A 2026 Guide for Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Shopping British Brands from the UAE: A 2026 Guide for Dubai and Abu Dhabi
TL;DR: Since August 2026, Dubai Customs no longer charges duty on eligible online orders worth up to AED 1,000, which makes buying from British websites better value than before. VAT of 5% still applies to every parcel. Get a free Send2Hub address in Britain, shop British retailers, combine your orders into one parcel, and leave the perfume off your list.
Why Shoppers in the UAE Buy from Britain
Many British high street names have stores in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but the range online in Britain is usually wider, and sale prices are often different. Shoppers in the Emirates come to us for three reasons: products and sizes that never reach local shelves, British sales such as Black Friday and Boxing Day, and retailers that deliver only within Britain. The UAE is home to a large British community, and the Middle East is one of our busiest destinations.
What's Worth Buying
Fashion and school wear
British fashion brands, plus uniform items and school shoes for British curriculum schools, often at better prices in British sales.
Skincare and beauty
High street skincare such as Boots No7 and independent British brands. Perfume is the exception, more on that below.
Home and children's items
Textiles, tableware, toys and books from British stores. For more ideas, browse our shopping directory.
Tech and gadgets
Devices with batteries built in, such as phones and laptops, can be forwarded as restricted items, without cover against loss or damage. Our lithium battery guide explains what can and can't be sent.
The 2026 Customs Change: What AED 1,000 Means for You
Since 3 August 2026, eligible e-commerce parcels with a CIF value (goods, shipping and insurance) of AED 1,000 or less are exempt from customs duty in Dubai. The previous threshold was AED 300. Here's what that means in practice:
1. Above AED 1,000, duty is usually 5% of the whole CIF value, not just the part above the threshold.
2. VAT of 5% applies at any value. Duty-free doesn't mean tax-free.
3. Some goods are always excluded, including tobacco, vaping products, nicotine liquids and alcohol.
4. Rules can differ by emirate and carrier, so check with your carrier how your parcel will be cleared.
5. Don't split one order into several parcels to stay under the threshold. Customs treat this as evasion.
Keep your order confirmations, so you can show the value of your goods if customs ask. Our customs duty estimator gives you an idea of the likely charges before you ship.
Perfume: The Most Common Surprise
Fragrance is hugely popular in the UAE, and British gift sets often include it. Perfume can't be forwarded in any size, and neither can aerosols. Check gift sets and beauty boxes before you order. If one reaches our warehouse, we'll contact you to agree what happens next.
Other Items to Check Before You Order
Medicines and supplements: some products sold freely in Britain are controlled in the UAE and may need approval from UAE health authorities. Check before you buy.
Power banks and standalone batteries: these can't be forwarded.
Food: check both our list and UAE import rules before ordering.
The full list is on our prohibited and restricted items page.
How to Order and Ship to the UAE
1. Register free and get your address in Britain, with your unique unit number.
2. Shop British websites and enter your Send2Hub address at checkout. Most retailers accept cards issued in the UAE.
3. Each parcel is photographed and weighed on arrival, so you can see it in your dashboard.
4. Keep everything in free storage (30 days on Individual, 45 on Business, 60 on Premium) and consolidate it into one parcel, typically cutting shipping by 40 to 60%.
5. Compare Royal Mail, Parcelforce, UPS, DHL, FedEx and DPD in our shipping calculator. For heavier or valuable parcels, express is usually the best choice.
6. Import VAT and any duty are paid by the recipient, usually on delivery or through a payment link from the carrier.
Delivery times depend on the carrier, the service and customs clearance in the UAE. For more on how parcel forwarding works and the shipping options for the Emirates, see our UAE shipping page.
