UK Shopping Guide for Mongolia: What to Buy and How to Ship
UK Shopping Guide for Mongolia: What to Buy and How to Ship
TL;DR: Many UK retailers do not ship to Mongolia, or charge high international rates for small orders. A free Send2Hub UK address lets you shop British stores as a local, then consolidate your purchases and ship them to Ulaanbaatar or anywhere in Mongolia with Royal Mail, Parcelforce, UPS, DHL, FedEx or DPD. Mongolia charges 10% VAT and a 5% customs duty on most imported goods, paid by the recipient on delivery, and small personal postal parcels can be exempt within limits set by Mongolian law. Consolidating usually cuts shipping costs by 40 to 60%.
Why Mongolian Shoppers Buy from the UK
British brands have a loyal following in Mongolia, from heritage outerwear built for real winters to skincare, books and children's clothing. The problem is getting them there. Mongolia sits between Russia and China, and many UK retailers either leave it off their shipping lists or quote international rates that make a single order hard to justify.
A Send2Hub UK address solves this. You shop at UK checkouts exactly like a local customer, your orders arrive at our warehouse in Stoke-on-Trent, and we forward them to you in Mongolia. Every parcel is photographed, weighed and measured on arrival, so you can see what has landed in your dashboard before you pay for shipping.
What's Worth Buying from Britain
Winter Outerwear and Knitwear
Mongolian winters are some of the coldest of any capital city in the world, which makes British outerwear a practical buy rather than a luxury. Barbour waxed jackets, Hunter boots and wool knitwear from UK brands and department stores such as John Lewis and Marks & Spencer are popular choices.
Fashion and Footwear
Next, ASOS, Clarks and Marks & Spencer offer wide size ranges and regular sales, and UK sizing is easy to check on each retailer's size guide.
Skincare and Beauty
Boots No7, The Body Shop and Liz Earle are among the most requested British beauty brands. Non-aerosol skincare can be forwarded, but perfumes and aerosol products cannot, so check before you order a gift set. Our guide to UK skincare brands has more ideas.
Books and Learning Materials
UK bookshops such as Waterstones and Blackwell's are a strong source of English-language books, textbooks and exam preparation materials, which are often hard to find locally. See our UK books guide for tips on ordering.
Children's Clothing and School Items
Children's ranges from Next, Marks & Spencer and John Lewis are known for durable fabrics and good value, especially during seasonal sales. Our UK school uniforms guide covers what to look for.
How to Order and Ship to Mongolia
1. Register Free
Create your account and your UK address with its unique unit number is ready straight away. Free storage is 30 days on Individual, 45 on Business and 60 on Premium.
2. Shop Any British Retailer
Use your Send2Hub address at checkout and always include your unit number. If a retailer does not accept your Mongolian card, our Shop & Ship service can buy the items for you.
3. Consolidate
Hold several orders and combine them into one shipment. Because international shipping is priced on weight and size, one combined box is usually far cheaper than several small ones. Learn more on our parcel consolidation page.
4. Choose Your Carrier
We ship to Mongolia with Royal Mail, Parcelforce, UPS, DHL, FedEx and DPD. Compare live rates in our shipping calculator, then pay and track your shipment from your dashboard.
Volumetric Weight and Packaging
International shipping is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Bulky items such as padded jackets and boots in their retail boxes can cost more to ship than their weight suggests. When you consolidate, you can choose our optional packaging removal add-on (£20 + VAT) to take out original boxes and reduce the size of your shipment. Fragile items such as ceramics and glassware need careful packing, so read our guide to shipping fragile items before you order.
Sale Events Worth Planning Around
Black Friday and Boxing Day on 26 December are the biggest UK sale periods for fashion, outerwear, beauty and homeware, and winter reductions on knitwear and coats often start in late autumn. With free storage, you can buy across several sales and ship everything together. See our Black Friday 2026 guide for timing tips.
Mongolian Customs: What to Know
Mongolia applies 10% VAT on imported goods, calculated on the value of the goods plus shipping and any customs duty. A customs duty of 5% applies to most goods. Under Mongolian rules, international postal parcels sent to a private individual can be exempt from VAT and duty when their value stays within a limit linked to the national minimum wage and they contain no more than two similar items. Because the limit changes when the minimum wage changes, check the current figure with Mongolian customs before you ship. Keep in mind that one large consolidated shipment is more likely to exceed the exemption limit than a small parcel, so consolidation saves on shipping but does not reduce customs charges.
Import charges for Mongolia are not paid upfront. Any duty and VAT are paid by the recipient on delivery, and courier shipments may also carry a clearance fee from the carrier. Use our customs duty estimator to get an idea of likely charges before you ship.
Save on Your Shipping
Our code SEND2HUB2026 takes 5% off your shipping cost. It is valid until 31 December 2026 and can be used on up to 10 shipments. See our discount code guide for details. Our price match guarantee also applies, so if you find a lower like-for-like rate, let us know.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Leaving your unit number out of the delivery address is the most common one, as it is how we match parcels to your account. Ordering perfume, aerosols or power banks is another, because these cannot be forwarded; check our prohibited and restricted items page first. Sending lots of identical items in one parcel can take it outside the personal parcel exemption. Shipping each order separately as it arrives is the biggest missed saving on shipping.
