What a UK Order Really Costs in Belgium in 2026
TL;DR: The price at a UK checkout isn't the final price in Belgium. Add shipping, Belgian VAT, the €3 EU duty per product category and, from 1 November 2026, a €2 EU handling fee per item. For a single cheap item, these extras can wipe out any saving. For a larger basket combined into one parcel, buying British often still pays off.
The Five Parts of the Final Price
Whether you call it a commande au Royaume-Uni or an order from an Engelse webshop, the cost in Belgium is built from the same five parts:
1. The shop price, in pounds.
2. Shipping from our warehouse to Belgium, which depends on weight, size and carrier.
3. Customs duty: for parcels worth €150 or less, a flat €3 per product category since 1 July 2026. Above €150, standard EU duty rates apply.
4. Belgian VAT: 21% standard rate, 6% on some goods such as books, calculated on the goods, shipping and duty together.
5. The EU handling fee: €2 per item from 1 November 2026, at any value.
Some carriers may also charge their own fee for handling customs clearance, so check the carrier's terms for Belgium.
A Worked Example
Say you buy two wool jumpers and a skincare set from UK shops, worth €120 in total. This is an illustrative figure, not a quote.

When a UK Order Makes Sense, and When It Doesn't

Who Pays, and When
For Belgium, import charges are paid by the recipient on delivery, to the carrier. Keep your order confirmations: from 1 November 2026, EU declarations must include Product Identifiers, and customs may ask for details.
