Finnish Customs — ALV and Import Charges
Finland is a member of the European Union and applies EU customs rules to goods arriving from the UK. Finnish VAT, known as ALV (arvonlisävero), stands at 25.5 percent as the standard rate following an increase in September 2024. A reduced rate of 14 percent applies to food and animal feed. Books, medicines and certain other goods carry 10 percent.
From 1 July 2026, the EU introduced a flat €3 duty per product category on all parcels valued at €150 or below entering from non-EU countries, which includes the UK. A parcel containing two different product categories pays €6. For parcels above €150, standard EU tariff rates apply, though goods genuinely originating in the UK may qualify for reduced rates under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
